Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders describe lifelong physical and/or brain development impairments that occur due to alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

Common features/characteristics
  • Abnormal facial features
  • Small head size
  • Shorter than average height
  • Low body weight
  • Poor coordination
  • Hyperactive behavior
  • Poor memory
  • Difficulty in school (especially math)
  • Learning disabilities
  • Vision or hearing problems
  • Intellectual disability
  • Poor reasoning and judgement skills
  • Sleep and sucking problems as a baby
  • Speech and language delays

6 to 9 school-aged children per 1,000 have a FASD
