Wisconsin has a drinking problem. 39% of high school students had consumed alcohol within the past 30 days, and 24% had engaged in binge drinking the past 30 days (2011 YRBS).
Alcohol is a leading cause of death among youth. Alcohol increases the risk for accidents, homicides, and suicides. It is also a factor in many tragedies, such as sexual assault, falls, drowning, or car accidents.
The social host ordinance strives to reduce the number of underage drinking parties, rather than step on the legal rights of parents in Wisconsin to provide alcohol to their own child.
